The general characteristics of Nb2O5 are white powder, insoluble in water, difficult to dissolve in acid, but soluble in the molten salt of potassium hydrogen sulfate or alkali metal carbonate and hydroxide. It is used for making Nb2O5 single crystal, special optical glass, high-frequency and low-frequency capacitors and piezoelectric ceramic components. It is also used for making various kinds of niobium alloys required for the production of niobium iron and special steel. It is the raw material for the preparation of niobium and its compounds. It is also used as a catalyst and refractory material.
