Chromium trioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Cr2O3. It is a green crystalline powder that is insoluble in water, acids, and alkali solutions, but soluble in hot alkali metal bromate solutions. It is mainly used for coloring ceramics and enamel, and can also be used as an analytical reagent and catalyst. Chemical properties
Cr2O3 is amphiphilic and can react with acids and bases:
Cr2O3+ 3H2SO4= Cr2(SO4)3+3H2O
Cr2O3 + 2NaOH = 2NaCrO2 + H2O
Reaction between Cr2O3 and potassium pyrosulfate at high temperature:
Cr2O3+ 3K2S2O7= 3K2SO4+ Cr2(SO4)3
