Tin is Silver white metal, soft texture, good ductility. Melting point 232ºC, density 7.29g/cm³. Non-toxic
Tin is a silver white and soft metal, which is similar to lead and zinc, but looks brighter. Its hardness is relatively low, and it can be cut with a small knife. It has good ductility, especially at a temperature of 100ºC, it can be spread into extremely thin tin foil with a thickness of less than 0.04mm.
Tin is also a low melting point metal, its melting point is only 232ºC, so as long as it is melted with a candle flame, it can be melted into a liquid with good fluidity.
Pure tin has a unique property: when a tin rod and tin plate are bent, a special bursting sound like crying will be emitted. This sound is caused by friction between crystals. When the crystal is deformed, such friction will occur. Surprisingly, if alloyed tin is used instead, it will not emit this crying sound when deformed. Therefore, people often use this characteristic of tin to identify whether a metal is tin or not.
Main uses
It can be used as a coating material and has extremely extensive applications in food, machinery, electronics, automobiles, aerospace and other industrial sectors. In float glass production, molten glass floats on a molten tin bath surface and solidifies as it cools.
